Marvelous Optimization #1

Marvelous #1

This is the first example I was showing in my session Marvelous Optimizations at Pause On Error [x] London 2011. I already wrote about this optimization some time ago. It’s the one that led me to unveil the Marvelous Optimization Formula. You can find the original article here: FileMaker Script Execution Time Cut From 5 Hours To 6 Seconds

I simply took the example and added FM Bench Detective into it to be able to exactly measure and examine what happens in the slow and the optimized script. Now you can watch the result in this video recorded at Pause On Error.

Click the button below to download the updated version of my example:

Download zipped fp7 file (3.8 MB)

Note that you need to download 24U FM Bench Detective, install the included 24U Toolbox Plug-In (no registration necessary) and put the FMBench_Log.fp7 file into the same folder as the example for the precise measurements to work.

This optimization was the real start of my “mad optimizer” journey.
But it was really only a start.
Stay tuned, more marvelous optimizations will follow…

Please try if removing the “-fmb” from the filename helps. I will look at it closer in a few hours.

HOnza,

Tried to open the file and get the message “The Access privleges in this file have been damaged or possibly tampered with. Please contact technical support if the problem cannot be resolved.”

Changing the file name doesn’t help. Tried to recover the file.. same result and recovery failed.
Would you take a look and if possible put a new/good copy.

Thanks much
Bruce

Finally fixed the download link. I originally started uploading the sample file unzipped. Then discovered it’s too large, so I stopped the upload, uploaded a zipped copy, but forgot to update the link.

Please accept my apologies and try to download the file again. It should be ok now.

Hi HO HOnza,

The link attached to your advertisement, http://fmbench.com/hbits, leads to a ’404′ Not Found page.
